Estimate your body fat percentage using the US Navy method or the simpler BMI-based method.
A body fat calculator estimates your body fat percentage using the US Navy method (based on body measurements) or a BMI-based method.
Healthy body fat ranges: Men 14-24%, Women 21-31%. Athletic: Men 6-13%, Women 14-20%. The Navy method is accurate within ~3-4% of DEXA scans.
Healthy body fat ranges (ACE guidelines): Men - Essential 2-5%, Athletic 6-13%, Fitness 14-17%, Average 18-24%. Women - Essential 10-13%, Athletic 14-20%, Fitness 21-24%, Average 25-31%.
The US Navy method estimates body fat using neck and waist measurements (and hip for women). It is typically accurate within 3-4% of actual body fat when measured carefully. It is less accurate for very muscular or very obese individuals.
BMI uses only height and weight to estimate body composition. Body fat percentage directly measures the proportion of fat in your body. Body fat percentage is a more accurate indicator of fitness because it distinguishes muscle from fat.
