Find your ideal weight using multiple formulas, with results in stone, pounds, and kilograms.
| Formula | Year | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Devine | 1974 | Most widely used; originally for drug dosing |
| Robinson | 1983 | Modification of Devine; slightly lighter estimates |
| Miller | 1983 | Alternative modification; smallest estimates |
| Hamwi | 1964 | Used in clinical settings; heaviest estimates |
To convert kg to stone: divide by 6.35 (1 stone = 6.35 kg). The whole number is your stone, and the remainder multiplied by 14 gives your pounds. For example, 75 kg = 11 stone 11 lbs (75 / 6.35 = 11.81, so 11 stone and 0.81 x 14 = 11.3 lbs).
The NHS recommends a BMI of 18.5-24.9 for most adults. For a 175 cm person, that's roughly 56-77 kg (8 st 13 lb to 12 st 2 lb). People of Black African, African-Caribbean, and South Asian heritage may need to aim for a lower BMI of 18.5-23.
Ideal weight formulas provide rough estimates based on height and gender. They don't account for body composition, muscle mass, or individual health factors. Use them as a general guide alongside BMI and consult your GP for personalised advice.
