Estimate your UK income tax based on HMRC tax bands for 2024/25.
This calculator uses HMRC's income tax bands for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Scotland has different rates (Starter, Basic, Intermediate, Higher, Advanced, and Top rates). For details, visit gov.uk/income-tax-rates.
| Band | Rate | Taxable in Band | Tax |
|---|
For England, Wales and NI: Personal Allowance £12,570 (0%), Basic Rate £12,571-£50,270 (20%), Higher Rate £50,271-£125,140 (40%), Additional Rate above £125,140 (45%). Scotland has different bands: Starter 19%, Basic 20%, Intermediate 21%, Higher 42%, Advanced 45%, Top 48%.
If your adjusted net income exceeds £100,000, your Personal Allowance is reduced by £1 for every £2 earned above £100,000. This creates an effective 60% marginal tax rate between £100,000 and £125,140. Above £125,140, the Personal Allowance is fully withdrawn.
Student loan repayments are collected via HMRC alongside tax. Plan 1: 9% on income over £24,990. Plan 2: 9% on income over £27,295. Plan 5 (new): 9% on income over £25,000. Postgraduate Loan: 6% on income over £21,000. These are separate from income tax but affect your take-home pay.
